About the role
We are supporting a large Canadian organisation with more than 30,000 employees in the search for a Director, HR Operational Excellence.
This is a newly created leadership position focused on building and developing an HR Operational Excellence function, improving end-to-end HR processes and supporting the organisation through continued growth and transformation.
The organisation has been live with Workday for approximately three years and is now moving into its next phase of HR optimisation.
This is not a hands-on Workday configuration role. The successful candidate will work closely with established HRIS and Workday teams, using their understanding of Workday business processes to improve the wider HR operating model and employee experience.

Key responsibilities
- Build and lead the HR Operational Excellence function.
- Review and improve end-to-end HR processes across the organisation.
- Identify recurring issues, manual processes and opportunities for automation.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and develop scalable future-state processes.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives across HR Operations and Employee Services.
- Use Workday and ServiceNow activity to identify process gaps and recurring employee issues.
- Partner closely with HRIS and Workday specialists on business process improvements.
- Improve employee self-service, process consistency and operational efficiency.
- Establish stronger process governance, documentation and improvement standards.
- Lead cross-functional HR transformation initiatives.
- Support HR process integration as the organisation continues to grow through acquisitions.
- Lead, coach and develop direct reports.
- Influence senior HR, Technology and Operations stakeholders.
- Strong HR Operational Excellence, HR transformation, HR operations or process improvement experience.
- Strong Workday experience within a large or complex organisation.
- Good understanding of Workday business processes and how HR process decisions impact the system.
- Proven experience improving and redesigning end-to-end HR processes.
- Strong continuous improvement and root-cause analysis experience.
- Experience working across HR Operations, HRIS and HR Technology.
- Proven people leadership and team development experience.
- Strong senior stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Experience leading cross-functional transformation programmes.
- Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels.
- ServiceNow or HR case management experience.
- Lean Six Sigma or similar process improvement methodologies.
- Experience within a unionised environment.
- Experience working with collective agreements.
- Healthcare, long-term care or another large frontline workforce environment.
- Experience supporting acquisitions or organisational growth.
You will work alongside an established Workday and HRIS function including:
- Senior HRIS Analysts.
- HRIS Analysts.
- Workday HCM Product leadership.
- Wider HR and Workday management.
Working model
- Based in Markham, Ontario.
- Hybrid working.
- Typically 2 to 3 days per week in the office.
- Thursday is an important in-office day for leadership collaboration and meetings.
- Some additional office attendance may occasionally be required for key leadership or business sessions.
- Flexibility around working hours is available.
- CAD $150,000 base salary.
- 20% target bonus.
