Role – We are seeking an experienced Head of Testing & Quality Assurance to lead enterprise-wide testing strategy, governance and quality engineering across a major digital transformation programme.
This senior leadership role requires extensive experience in Software Testing, Quality Assurance, Test Management and Test Automation, with responsibility for defining testing standards, improving organisational test maturity and ensuring the successful delivery of business-critical applications.
You will lead geographically distributed testing teams, oversee complex testing programmes and act as the senior authority for testing governance, quality assurance, release readiness and risk management.

Key Responsibilities
- Testing Strategy & Leadership
- Define and implement enterprise-wide Test Strategy, Quality Assurance frameworks and Testing Governance.
- Lead geographically distributed testing teams across multiple programmes and delivery workstreams.
- Establish testing standards, methodologies, quality metrics and test maturity roadmaps.
- Drive continuous improvement across Quality Engineering, Test Automation and Risk-Based Testing.
- Test Delivery & Quality Assurance
- Oversee System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), Regression, Performance, Security and Automation Testing.
- Govern test planning, execution, defect management, reporting and quality assurance across complex programmes.
- Define quality gates, release readiness criteria, KPIs and SLAs to ensure delivery standards.
- Manage testing across Agile, Waterfall and Hybrid delivery methodologies.
- Automation, DevOps & Innovation
- Lead the adoption of Test Automation frameworks, CI/CD, DevOps and Shift-Left Testing practices.
- Evaluate modern testing technologies and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and test coverage.
- Drive continuous testing, defect prevention and root cause analysis.
- Explore AI-assisted testing and Quality Engineering capabilities to improve delivery outcomes.
- Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Partner with Business, Product, Architecture, Development and Programme Leadership to align testing strategy with delivery objectives.
- Manage relationships with third-party vendors, System Integrators and testing partners.
- Provide executive-level reporting on testing progress, quality risks, defects and release readiness.
- Act as the senior escalation point for testing governance, quality assurance and delivery risks.
Key Skills
- 12+ years' experience in Software Testing and Quality Assurance, including at least 5 years in senior Test Management or Testing Leadership roles.
- Proven Utilities industry experience, with a strong understanding of enterprise testing requirements within complex Utilities environments.
- Extensive experience leading enterprise-wide testing programmes, managing multiple workstreams and geographically distributed teams.
- Strong expertise across Test Strategy, Testing Governance, Quality Engineering, Test Automation and Risk-Based Testing.
- Proven experience overseeing SIT, UAT, Regression, Performance, Security and Automation Testing.
- Strong understanding of Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid delivery, DevOps, CI/CD and Shift-Left Testing.
- Experience establishing testing frameworks, quality gates, release readiness criteria, KPIs and SLAs.
- Strong experience managing third-party vendors, System Integrators and senior business stakeholders.
- Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management and executive reporting skills.
