We are hiring a Senior GCP Cloud Engineer to design, build and run resilient, highly scalable cloud-native services on Google Cloud. You will lead architecture across teams, build Kubernetes-based platform automation, and set the engineering standard for how the firm uses public cloud.

This is a hands-on senior role where you will write production code shaping cloud platform standards, CI/CD maturity and infrastructure-as-code practices across Software Engineering. You will work within firm-wide security, compliance and regulatory requirements for a financial services environment.

Key Responsibilities - Build and operate on GCP and Lead architecture
  • Build and operate resilient, highly scalable services on GCP, in line with firm-wide public cloud, security and compliance standards
  • Write secure, high-quality production code, and review, debug and improve code written by others
  • Design and build Kubernetes operators, controllers and CRDs that automate platform, infrastructure, security and application lifecycle workflows
  • Lead architectural design for cloud-native systems and services
  • Produce design artefacts (RFCs, ADRs, architecture diagrams) that are reviewed and adopted across multiple teams
  • Lead vendor and technology assessments, running deep-dive sessions with vendors, startups and internal teams to judge designs, credentials and fit with the firm's technology strategy
Required Skills and Experience
  • Hands-on experience designing, building and operating custom Kubernetes operators and CRDs with Kubebuilder, Operator SDK or similar
  • Proven experience building cloud-native control planes and automation frameworks: reconciliation loops, admission controllers, webhooks and custom controllers
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes internals, API machinery, RBAC, multi-tenancy, observability and production operations
  • Advanced proficiency in at least one modern language, ideally Go or Python, including performance optimisation and concurrency patterns
  • Experience designing CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation and deployment strategies
  • Advanced understanding of the SDLC and agile practices (CI/CD, application resiliency, security, capacity planning), with the ability to improve them across teams
  • Demonstrated expertise in a technical discipline such as cloud architecture, distributed systems, security, DevOps/platform engineering or AI/ML
This is an inside IR35 Contract role working via Umbrella Company so candidates can only be considered if they are based in the UK.

The role can be based from either Glasgow or Scotland and you will be required onsite 2-3 days per week.
