AI Architect & Governance Lead (Contract)

Overview
Our client, a major organization within the construction and infrastructure sector, is seeking an experienced AI Architect & Governance Lead to shape and oversee their enterprise AI strategy. This role will guide the technical architecture, governance framework, and execution of advanced AI initiatives across the business.
The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership capabilities, ensuring AI solutions are scalable, secure, and compliant with emerging regulations and internal governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and govern the full lifecycle of the organization’s AI program, including solution design, technical feasibility assessments, and risk management.
  • Develop and enforce AI governance policies that ensure responsible AI practices, transparency, data privacy, and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001).
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Data Scientists and AI/automation engineering teams.
  • Evaluate and select AI technologies, frameworks, and platforms aligned with organizational needs.
  • Conduct risk assessments for AI initiatives, identifying and mitigating technical, operational, and compliance risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into secure, scalable AI solutions.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of methodologies, workflows, and model performance.
  • Communicate AI strategy, governance principles, and technical concepts to a range of internal stakeholders.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in AI, machine learning, and modern software architecture to drive continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Proven experience architecting and governing enterprise-scale AI programs.
  • Strong software development, data engineering, and machine learning expertise.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft AI and data technologies (Azure AI/ML, Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft Foundry, Azure AI Studio, Copilot Studio, SQL Server, Power BI).
  • Strong understanding of source control and CI/CD best practices.
  • Experience implementing solutions on Microsoft cloud hosting services.
  • Demonstrated capability to assess and manage technical and compliance risks.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the construction, industrial, or engineering sectors.
  • Familiarity with agentic AI, generative AI, and conversational user experience design.
  • Understanding of AI governance and regulatory standards.
  • Experience with cloud architecture and DevOps methodologies.
  • Portfolio of delivered AI initiatives or programs.
