Forensics and Robotics Engineer

BH-32359
  • €70 to €75 Per: hour + Benefits: N/A
  • Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg,
  • Contract
We are seeking a highly versatile Forensics Engineer to act as the first line of technical defence for complex robotic and autonomous vehicle systems. This role operates much like an “A&E (Accident & Emergency) unit for robots”—diagnosing issues in real time, identifying root causes, and determining the appropriate course of action to restore systems to operational status.

You will work at the intersection of robotics, software, and vehicle systems within an OEM environment, supporting advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous technologies. The position is highly reactive, fast-paced, and focused on rapid problem-solving rather than long-term project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Incident Diagnosis & Triage
    • Act as the first responder for system issues across robotic and ADAS platforms
    • Investigate failures, analyse logs, and determine root causes
    • Triage issues to the appropriate specialist teams (e.g. perception, controls, hardware, ML)
  • Technical Decision-Making
    • Assess whether issues can be resolved immediately or require escalation
    • Decide whether systems can be returned to service or need deeper intervention (“treat and release” vs “specialist ward”)
  • Data Analysis & Debugging
    • Extract, process, and analyse system logs to identify faults
    • Write Python scripts to interrogate data and automate diagnostics
    • Read and interpret C++ code to understand system behaviour
  • System-Level Troubleshooting
    • Investigate issues across the full robotics stack, including:
      • Control systems
      • State estimation and drift
      • Sensor calibration (e.g. cameras)
      • Compute systems (GPU performance, latency bottlenecks)
    • Diagnose interactions between large-scale ML models and real-time vehicle systems
  • Operational Support
    • Implement quick fixes and tactical solutions to return vehicles to operation
    • Support ongoing performance improvements of deployed systems
    • Contribute to continuous improvement of diagnostic processes and tooling
Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong background in robotics or autonomous systems, with broad exposure across the full stack
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Control systems
    • State estimation (including drift and calibration challenges)
    • Sensor fusion and perception systems
  • Proficiency in Python for scripting, data analysis, and tooling
  • Ability to read and understand C++ codebases
  • Experience debugging complex systems involving hardware and software interaction
  • Familiarity with:
    • GPU-based systems and performance constraints
    • Real-time systems and latency considerations
  • Comfortable working in a reactive, support-style environment (similar to IT support, but for robotics systems)
Desirable Experience
  • Experience in ADAS or autonomous vehicle development
  • Background working within an OEM or automotive environment
  • Hands-on experience building or deploying robotic systems
  • Advanced academic background (e.g. PhD in Robotics or related field) or strong practical experience (e.g. personal autonomous projects)
This is a 6 month contract role based in Germany and you will be required onsite 2 days per week in Stuttgart.
