About the Project:
The Platforms, Integrations & Data team provides the core data and platform foundations for a large-scale Modernization Programme. The team is responsible for building reliable data solutions, integrations, and shared services that support multiple workstreams across the organization.
As an Azure Data Engineer, you will design, build, and operate robust data flows that move and transform data into modern cloud-based systems.
You will ensure data accuracy, quality, governance, and readiness for downstream services and applications with Integration & Design experience.

Contract Details
  • Duration: 8 weeks
  • Hours: Full-time (approx. 40 hours per week)
  • Start: Immediate
  • Location: Must be based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)
  • Rate: $75–80 USD per hour
  • Payment: Issued in USD
  • Engagement Type: Independent contractor (freelance)

Mandatory Candidate Requirements

  • Must be available to start immediately.
  • Must have full Right to Work as an Independant freelancer in Canada.
  • Must be able to commit to full-time hours for the full 8-week duration.
  • Must be accustomed to freelance/contract engagements.
  • Must be properly set up to operate as an independent contractor.
  • Must be able to invoice and receive payment in USD.
  • Comfortable managing own taxes and business obligations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines in Azure cloud environments.
  • Develop and manage integrations between legacy and modern systems.
  • Implement robust ETL/ELT processes including transformation, validation, and error handling.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and observability across all pipelines.
  • Document data flows, transformation logic, and lineage clearly and comprehensively.
  • Support legacy system data migrations and manage complex data dependencies over time.
  • Implement and document data privacy controls, particularly around PII.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across technical and non-technical workstreams.
  • Contribute to shared data services that underpin broader modernization efforts.
Required Experience & Skills Core Data Engineering Experience
  • Significant experience in data engineering roles - Design & Integration.
  • Demonstrable track record of delivering production-grade data pipelines in cloud environments.
  • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT concepts, transformation logic, data mapping, and error handling strategies.

  • Other Azure data services as relevant
Data Governance & Migration
  • Experience working with legacy system migrations.
  • Proven ability to manage complex data dependencies and phased transitions.
  • Strong documentation skills covering data lineage, transformation rules, and controls.
  • Familiarity with data privacy legislation (e.g., FOIPOP) and implementation of controls for PII.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Able to explain data flows and design decisions clearly
