The opportunity
We are looking for a Workday HCM Architect to own the technical system elements of the Workday HCM practice.
Reporting to the Workday Platform Lead, you will act as the in-house Workday HCM expert, supporting implementations, resolving complex system issues, improving client environments and setting best practice standards across Workday tenants.
This is a hands-on role covering Workday configuration, business processes, security, integrations, reporting and back-end system optimization. You will work with clients, leadership and external consultants, while maintaining ownership of quality and technical standards.
As the practice grows, there will also be the opportunity to help mentor junior Workday practitioners and support the development of the wider HCM team.

Key responsibilities
Implementation and system architecture
- Lead end-to-end Workday HCM implementations from discovery and requirements gathering through configuration, testing, go-live and post-go-live support
- Architect and configure Workday HCM modules including Core HCM, Benefits, Absence, Compensation, Talent and Recruiting
- Design and maintain integrations between Workday and third-party systems using Workday Studio, EIBs, Core Connectors and APIs
- Set Workday architecture standards, design principles and configuration best practices
- Work with clients and external consultants to ensure Workday environments are scalable, consistent and fit for purpose
- Review existing Workday configurations and identify inefficiencies, manual workarounds and process gaps
- Build and refine business processes, security roles, calculated fields, condition rules and approval frameworks
- Design and maintain custom reports, dashboards and Prism Analytics workbooks
- Conduct system audits to support data integrity, process alignment and compliance with HR policies
- Recommend and deliver improvements across Workday environments
- Act as the escalation point for complex Workday HCM system issues
- Diagnose root causes and implement long-term fixes across configuration, security, integrations, reporting and tenant-level issues
- Troubleshoot integration failures, business process errors, security issues and data defects
- Manage the Workday release cycle, including feature reviews, impact analysis, testing and deployment planning
- Maintain documentation for configurations, known issues, fixes and repeatable processes
- Act as a trusted Workday technical advisor to clients
- Translate complex Workday capabilities into clear, practical guidance
- Partner with leadership to shape Workday service offerings and identify opportunities to expand client relationships
- Manage external consultants on larger projects, ensuring clear expectations and delivery quality
- Support hiring, onboarding and mentoring as the Workday HCM practice grows
- 7+ years of hands-on Workday HCM experience
- Strong background in full-cycle Workday HCM implementations and post-go-live optimization
- Deep configuration experience across Core HCM and additional HCM modules such as Benefits, Absence, Compensation, Talent and Recruiting
- Strong knowledge of Workday business process design, security administration, calculated fields and reporting
- Experience building and troubleshooting integrations using Workday Studio, EIBs, Core Connectors and REST or SOAP APIs
- Reporting experience, ideally including BIRT, Prism Analytics, dashboards and advanced calculated fields
- Proven ability to diagnose complex Workday issues and deliver sustainable fixes
- Comfortable working as a senior individual contributor in a high-accountability environment
- Experience working with external consultants and managing distributed workstreams
- Strong client-facing communication skills across technical and business audiences
- Workday Pro certification in HCM, Integrations, Reporting or a related area
- Experience with Workday Extend or custom application development on the Workday platform
- Familiarity with Adaptive Planning, ADP, Ceridian or other payroll and workforce platforms
- Background in Workday consulting or professional services
- Experience managing multiple client workstreams at the same time
- Experience helping build or scale a Workday practice
- Exposure to HR analytics, people analytics or AI-driven HR tools
