Security Engineer (Data Security / DSPM), freelance, 12 month-contract, fully remote, UK

Attractive opportunity for an experienced Security Engineer to join a global technology consultancy delivering a Data Security transformation programme for a leading Tier-1 financial institution.
You will work on a strategic Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) initiative focused on discovering, classifying and protecting sensitive data across complex enterprise environments.
The programme includes product evaluation, Proof of Value (PoV), Proof of Concept (PoC) and deployment of modern DSPM platforms such as BigID, Varonis or Cyera, enabling improved data visibility, automated remediation and stronger regulatory compliance.

If you accept, your mission will be to enhance the organisation’s data security capabilities and drive the evolution of its Data Security platform. Main tasks
  1. Scan multiple areas of the enterprise estate to identify sensitive data across structured and unstructured environments.
  2. Recommend and implement remediation actions and automated security workflows.
  3. Support DSPM platform deployment, configuration and integration across multiple environments.
  4. Provide actionable insights on potential threats and risk mitigation strategies.
  5. Contribute to the design and delivery of Data Security services and scanning infrastructure enhancements.
  6. Collaborate with engineering teams to improve data security architecture and cloud-native application security.
  7. Ensure alignment with security frameworks, compliance requirements and secure software lifecycle patterns.
What We’re Looking For
• Strong experience with Data Security Posture Management platforms (BigID, Varonis, Cyera or similar).
• Experience implementing data discovery, classification and remediation workflows.
• Knowledge of Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Data Privacy and Protection, DSPM/CSPM, SIEM and vulnerability management.
• Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure).
• Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Experience working with data connectors, policies, classifiers and data pipelines.
• Knowledge of data governance frameworks and regulatory requirements (GDPR, CCPA, NIST, OWASP).
• Experience with SQL and modern database technologies (RDBMS or NoSQL).
• Ability to work in Agile environments using Scrum/Kanban/JIRA.

Desirable
• Experience working in financial services or other regulated sectors.
• Experience with IAM, credential management and vault technologies (CyberArk or similar).
• Familiarity with Kubernetes/OpenShift, Helm and Linux system troubleshooting.
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a related discipline.
CISSP or equivalent security certifications.
