Overview
We are seeking an experienced Workday Configuration Lead to join our workday customer on an initial 3–6 month Outside IR35 contract.
The business are about to go Live across HCM, Core Compensation, Absence, Talent & Performance + Payroll, transitioning into a BAU environment whilst also moving into a Phase 2 programme
This is a hands-on leadership role, responsible for leading a small team of Workday configuration specialists while actively delivering configuration, support and optimisation across the Workday platform.
The successful consultant will take ownership of Business-as-Usual (BAU) configuration activity for recently implemented modules, whilst also supporting the next phase of the organisation's Workday transformation programme.
You will bring extensive Workday implementation experience, strong functional configuration expertise, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, balancing operational support with ongoing programme delivery.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a small team of Workday Configuration Specialists, managing priorities, workload and delivery quality.
- Own the day-to-day functional configuration and BAU support across Workday, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable and aligned to best practice.
- Deliver hands-on configuration across Workday Core HCM, Compensation, Absence and related modules.
- Configure and optimise Workday foundations, including organisational structures, business processes and tenant configuration.
- Manage end-to-end configuration activities including business process design, security configuration, reporting and tenant administration.
- Review, analyse and prioritise configuration requests from HR and business stakeholders, translating business requirements into effective Workday solutions.
- Respond to and deliver urgent configuration changes where business priorities require rapid turnaround.
- Own the functional configuration roadmap, ensuring work is effectively prioritised and delivered.
- Lead Workday release management activities, coordinating testing, deployment and communication across Workday and integrated applications.
- Maintain and enhance the Workday security model, including security groups, role-based access and data security, ensuring appropriate governance and compliance.
- Identify opportunities to improve system functionality, streamline HR processes and enhance the end-user experience.
- Produce and maintain high-quality documentation including configuration workbooks, process documentation, operating procedures and knowledge articles.
- Provide regular status updates and progress reporting to HR and programme stakeholders.
- Extensive hands-on Workday HCM configuration experience across multiple functional modules.
- Proven experience leading or mentoring Workday configuration teams.
- Previous experience supporting Workday implementations through post-go-live BAU and continuous improvement.

- Deep understanding of the Workday security framework, including role-based security and domain security policies.
- Experience managing Workday releases, change management and production deployments.
- Strong understanding of HRIS support and operational service management.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage confidently with HR, IT and business leaders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive, delivery-focused approach.
- Experience supporting global or multi-region Workday deployments.
- Exposure to additional Workday modules such as Recruiting, Talent, Learning or Payroll.
- Experience working within Agile or hybrid delivery environments.
- Workday Pro certification(s) or equivalent implementation experience.
